lol is that real.
Yes
Godwin’s law (or Godwin’s rule), short for Godwin’s law of Nazi analogies,[1] is an Internet adage asserting: “As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.”
Godwin’s Law was an artefact of a time when we knew that Nazis were as extinct as Vikings and Mongol hordesmen, and comparing someone to one was dramatic hyperbole. It, of course, no longer applies.
a time when we knew that Nazis were as extinct
The only people who “knew” Nazis were extinct never paid much attention to history. We brought Nazi scientists over, and German government was populated by former Nazis, because who else was going to run their government? Also plenty of Nazis went in vacation to South America before justice could be served.
We only defeated the Nazi state and killed their high command (that we could). Much like after the US Civil War, there wasn’t enough done to root out the underlying rot.
Plus, we never dealt with the Nazis at home…
I had family who lived through WWII and warned us the Nazis would come back. They never went extinct, just into hiding.
And they really didn’t hide all that well.
It never applied. To anything as a rule only as an exception. To chalk up to incompetence rather than malice, and greed, often the root of malice, has always been laughable.
Godwin’s law is well and truly dead.
