Funny enough Cinnamon is Gnome 3 done right.

And I agree gnome in general has its sore points, I’m just used to them.

Then you chose right! Regarding Ubuntu I have been using it for work VMs and it’s adequate, my current annoyance is that you can’t easily change the UI colours to distinguish different projects, because it’s not the “Ubuntu way”, maybe I’ll find a hack.

I don’t think it’s dead, we found solutions like using Devuan and stopped complaining.

I can still laugh at the memes.

I upgraded 3 major versions of Devuan with a snapshot between each upgrade, and I have a script running doing hourly/daily/weekly snapshots.

The only hassle was updating grub to boot on the new snapshot, while still being able to boot the old, I had to dig up a boot USB when I messed it up.
