First of all, that’s not their only install option as far as I can tell. I can see an incantation which automatically pulls and installs it, and I see a step-by-step make build instruction set.

Both of which can be relatively easily googled because they’re both only 3 commands. And, if you’re on a Linux machine that means you probably have access to the man pages for make, mv and cd.

If you’re installing something without understanding the command behind it then you’re doing something wrong. You wouldn’t download and install a random .exe, so stop running random wget | sudo bash commands.

I actually think a lot of people put the same or more effort into Windows, they just don’t realize it because it’s what they’re used to. You would verify the install instructions on Windows. If you wouldn’t, then you probably should be on something atomic rather than windows or a normal Linux distro.

They will come across something that needs some command line input

No it absolutely is not. When you’re looking up guides and come across an unfamiliar command, don’t copy and paste it and find out what it does. Google it. Man it. Research it. Stop copying and pasting commands you don’t understand.

As much as we may disagree with Felix and his decisions, I can’t help but see the potential value of one of the most popular internet celebrities in the world pushing the “Linux is just as good as windows now” narrative.

It’s gonna push more devs to click that enable Proton button a lot more often, they wouldn’t wanna lock their game off of one of the biggest YouTube channels in the world now would they?

About a year in and a couple distro hops, the only time I’ve had something properly break on its own was when my Fedora Sway install forgot where to find font info.

That was the last time I distrohopped, went to Endeavour and got quite cozy with the “fuck you do it yourself” mentality. If my stuff was gonna break, I should at least expect it and have plans

Between the fuck utility and this alias idea, when I set up my next box I’m absolutely aliasing “fuck off” for sudo the last command and “please” for sudo itself

This is gonna be my first project when I move lol

I’m not looking for a solution, I want to gain empathy so I can be a better leader for my peers and followers. I want to understand how you get through life and what affects this thing that makes you diverse from me so that I can positively impact the people around me.
