  • Yea, that Clie (thanks for reminding me of the spelling btw) was great. It had a decent lithium battery (palms had alkaline batteries ant the time) and fit in my pocket as well as the early iPhones.

I ended up using the dock from the old Palm Pilot with a usb cord grafted on the end to download images from those ‘one time use’ digital cameras from Ritz.

  • Those were the performa/CD Macs and they were terrible we’d had an Apple 2e and upgraded to the Mac in the mid 90s. The whole system would basically pause if you held down the mouse button, including audio recording if I remember correctly.

They made me build a PC when I graduated high school, but I eventually went back to Macs when it was better for my career in design.

  • That’s the temporary shed while they rigged it to be hoisted up the tower where it was detonated. You can see the pulley block attached to the top. Anything in that spot would have been temporary, whether they dismantled it or not, so wasting resources on a “better” structure would be silly.

It’s in the desert, so a shelter was probably necessary to keep things cooler and a bit cleaner.

  • When “everything is AI now” and your motion board/investors are watching nvidia nearing 1T, then they want you in the GPU business.

And now we’re back to the public companies are terrible at innovation argument. If the line can only go up, you can’t take risks and you have to hurt people to continue at some point.

  • That’s not from shrinkage (well the 1/16 might be, especially newer fast heated junk at the Homely Despot). It’s from when they mill the rough sawn 2x4 down to “finished size”. You can buy actual 2x4s, but they won’t have the nice planned surfaces or beveled edges.

I’m not wondering why it’s that sized, I’m annoyed why they insist on calling both rough saw and finished items 2x4s.
