My place of work in the early '90s used to have those original motivational posters all over the place, so I hung some of this original demotivational series in my cubicle. I believe they are the ones that started it all, and I still personally think they are the best.

The times I’ve done it were for:

• One guy who had his phone in his steering wheel and was playing some sort of online gambling the whole drive and didn’t look directly at the road once
• One guy who was driving around on a spare tire (doughnut) on the highway at speeds way above those it said on the tire.

I mean I can look the other way on just about anything (I’ve given 5* to a lot of questionable driving decisions and shitty cars) but when you are putting my life at risk, that’s where I draw the line.

Yeah this is why I almost always give 5* reviews to any sort of thing that’s traced back to a worker unless I really feel like they need to be reprimanded for something, and how badly they should be reprimanded is how many stars I take off. This is only for the 1% who really need a talking to.

When it comes to product reviews on Amazon for example, or business reviews, I feel a lot more free to give my real opinion to help the next person.

I think mostly it just tells you what it thinks you want to hear. If you push it hard enough to tell you something, it will tell you that. Grok, OTOH, is explicitly trained to try to give you biased answers.

Well I studied CS, was a Unix sysadmin for a few years, then a consultant for a enterprise software company. But I’ve been in sales for 20 years, so that should count equally against me, although I do still have some linux servers at home. I’m probably still a bit overqualified for the task of signing up to the fediverse.

Certainly my case. But most of the enshitification of Reddit happened just in the last few years, max decade. You’d think we’d at least have some 20 and 30 somethings.

In high school in the '90s we were pretty close. It was a handful of places but not that many, basically anywhere we could get away with sitting for hours nursing a coffee or iced tea. If they had pinball, big bonus. Maybe not every day, but certainly many days in the week.

All I’m saying that is if someone hacks the banks computer and takes the money you will get it back. Same if someone steals your credit card and makes a bunch of fraudulent transactions or the bank goes out of business. If someone does any of those things with crypto (which happens distressingly often), your money is gone.

Have you heard of a bank? That’s where non criminals tend to keep their money.

It depends greatly on how it’s stored. Most people just keep it in an exchange, which are robbed fairly often. Which wouldn’t be a problem with real cash as there are laws in place to protect you. With crypto you have no recourse.

It’s accepted almost no where. And the list of issues go on. Crypto is easily stolen, very difficult to secure. Difficult to use for most people. Proof of work crypto is still in the majority and wastes absurd amounts of energy, etc. But the biggest issue is that it doesn’t solve any problems that were not solved long ago unless you are conducting criminal activity (which I do have to acknowledge as it’s one stand out use case).

A banknote is accepted as a means of exchange, ie a currency in a way that bitcoin and other crypto coins are not and cannot ever be due to the fees and delays in the system, not to mention the absurd volatility or lack of liquidity in the smaller coins.
