  • two apps? where do you work that you only have two apps open? just on my home pc right now I have 21 programs open, of course that includes things that autostartup, but those things take time to startup. stuff like dropbox can take several minutes until it stops thrashing your cpu. On my work computer I have even more. Just in basic programs to do my job that’s at minimum 8 programs. That doesn’t include auto startup apps, or other apps I use. That’s just basics required by my job. Several of them are IDEs which take several minutes to start, and then when they do start you have to open up the project, indexing happens. All told, the computer can start in 20 seconds, but getting to a working desktop state is about 10 minutes.

  • this meme is really true for windows, sometimes my pc wakes up the second I put it to sleep. seems to be some random app I have open allowing it to wake up again. infuriating. With intel macs, they wasted a lot of battery asleep, but my silicon mac can sleep for weeks without losing hardly any battery. linux I still can’t get sound to work properly.

  • absolutely not… you can travel literally a thousand miles without hitting a router if you’re traveling transcontinental, whereas if you’re in a dorm in college and you live right next to an T1 node you can be hitting 15 different routers because your college actually uses a virtual network provider from the other side of town.

Hops absolutely does not correspond to distance in any reasonable sense. Youtube also buffers to avoid that transcode quality issue, so no you’re getting the quality you ask for, but the bitrate might be different depending on your physical internet speed. The distance has jack shit to do with it.

  • latency and ping has absolutely nothing to do with video quality. the quality as it’s received by the client is going to be the exact same. You’re not losing data in the process. it’s not like a container ship that’s traveling across the ocean and for every 100 miles it travels it loses a container. If you’re getting buffering then sure, maybe you’re calling that ‘quality’ but it absolutely is not what anyone else means when they say quality.

  • Gamers nexus was easily proven wrong too. Trusting gamers nexus on anything these days is just gonna make you look bad. Steve has clearly no problem with attacking LTT no matter what he has to make up in order to do so. LTT aren’t saints, but they aren’t making up shit in order to attack other creators. It’s just not possible to trust GN to be proper journalists anymore.
