I think my desktop has something like 20TiB free out of around 60TiB currently and I’d just call that a comfortable place to be. … But I’d understand if a disk tool gave me some grief over it

All you need to do is install way too many packages on your root partition, including BTRFS Assistant and you, too can be judged.
