Coffee is a diuretic, but I don’t know if its the caffiene. Other caffeine drinks don’t make me have to use the bathroom soon after, like coffee does. It’s not giving diarreah, it’s just moving things along.
Typical tea has around 50mg of caffeine. Typical espresso based drink has 2 or 3 espresso shots at around 65mg each. Plus milk, which a bunch of adults can’t digest to at least some degree.
so you’re in luck i know way too much about my gut. i can test for part of the gut but i’m missing much of mine. the parts i have, black coffee accelerates transit around 33% (reduces by 1/4). Short version, it stimulates peristalsis to a degree that tea does not. If you would like specific numbers I’m going to need a day or two.
Is this actually a thing? I’ve only ever heard it from people in the US.
James Hoffman released a video on this on YT a couple weeks ago, its a bacteria that’s unique to the gut biome of Coffee drinkers.
The video is more playful and cartoony than his normal work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZnAQ-PWQdg

Maybe its the temperature of the coffee too.

James Hoffman just recently made a video on this very subject: https://youtu.be/LZnAQ-PWQdg
It may be the quantity, energy drinks do it too.
It’s basically the only reason I actually drink coffee for.
I’m Canadian, sometimes you’ve just gotta go more than once a day
I meant more the “coffee makes you shit” thing. I’ve not encountered the idea across the pond.
